Dolly Rebecca Parton
Dolly Rebecca Parton was created on
January 19 1946 in Pittman Center (Tennessee). She was the daughter of Avie Lee
Parton and Robert Lee Parton in Sevierville. Parton is a domestic worker and
Parton is a tobacco farmer. When she was 12, she was performing on Knoxville TV
and at 13 she had already begun recording for a small label , and was
performing at the Grand Ole Opry. She relocated to Nashville in 1964 to begin
her country music career after graduating from high school. Carl Dean, a asphalt-paving
business owner was her first lover. The couple was married on May 30, 1966.
Porter Wagoner saw her singing and hired her to appear on The Porter Wagoner
Show (1961). The show lasted for seven years. Their duets were a hit and she
performed with his group at the Grand Ole Opry; she also performed on tour and
sold records. By the time her hit "Joshua" was ranked #1 in 1970, her
fame had eclipsed hers and she went on her own while still recording duets
alongside him. In 1974, she quit the duo to become a solo artist. Dolly gained
immense popularity as a songwriter/singer. Dolly was awarded numerous Country
Music Association awards (1968, 1970, 1971, 1975, and 1976). The petite
(5'0") beauty was a natural for television. The mid-1970s saw her becoming
a regular on TV. she was regularly appearing in TV specials and talk shows, and
was even having her own Dolly (1976). Dolly was awarded her first Grammy award
for Best Female Country Vocal Performance in 1977 for "Here You Come
Again". Dolly made her movie debut in 9 to 5, 1980. The film was nominated
for an Oscar for the song that was the title, as well as Grammy awards 2/3:
Best Country Song and Best Female Country Vocal Performance. Her most memorable
roles were in The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas (1982) and Rhinestone (1984)
in which she sang "Tennessee Homesick Blues". Dolly Parton
Enterprises, worth $100 million, is her chief. Dollywood was established in
Pigeon Forge in Tennessee in 1986 to commemorate her Smoky Mountain heritage.
In the television series Dolly she played herself. She won another Grammy in
1988, this time for Best Country Performance Duo/Group with Vocals in the
category of "Trio".
